It’s difficult enough to convict actual genocidal maniacs for their crimes. That said, I’m not too eager to “support” the troops. I certainly don’t want anything bad to happen to them. Most of bizarre them are young. Many of them, despite the fact that they’re so young, already have families. I don’t want to bizarre see kids growing up fatherless or motherless. However, with an all-volunteer army, it’s hard to excuse every soldier for moral culpability in this war. They all joined up knowing that they could be sent to war, even an illegal, immoral, unjustified war that actually makes this country, Iraq, and the world less stable and safe. |

I love this city and always thought I would die here, but, it’s becoming harder and harder to deal with every day. Triffid Farmer made a good point above. In his opinion, he stated that the rapist couldn’t have taken off the victim’s jeans without her consent. I guess jeans are a modern chastity belt. I’ve seen other lovely, misogynistic, Italian court rulings in the news as well. I don’t know much about misogyny in Italian culture in general, but the courts seem to be unbearable. I do agree that our troops can’t be held legally responsible for fighting an illegal war. |
