I think more old mature ladies politicians, more consultants, bloggers, should pretend that their mom is old mature ladies sitting right next to them old mature ladies when they are going about their business.  What a more civilized world this would be.  We might even get some good ideas out of politicians for once.  I think George Lakoff and his framing nonsense is a bunch of hooey, but I will borrow from him in this regard - before you do anything in politics...do think of your mother.  I'm afraid I'll probably break this rule more often than I follow it, but I promise to try.  Really, Ma. The fact that Harry Reid, or Bill Frist, or James Dobson, might even exist, is unknown to her...let alone that they had some sort of disagreement. The gulf between my mom, and I argue, most friends moms, and the friends political culture dominant in America today is so vast, it is hard to begin to describe it.  The Schiavo thing briefly got her attention, immediately disgusting her, making the chasm ever wider.  She was, and is, completely unaware of a fillibuster deal, or that a fillibuster thingy was even ongoing.  I briefly wondered if friends I should introduce her to some of the political people I recognized at Slyman's, then I thought about it for a second, and realized that it would just be an encroachment on the time between a mother and her son. Which is why I think politicians (and perhaps bloggers?) behave themselves when they are around their moms.
