| I think part of this is due to the complexity of the template syntax. For some reason, whether they're simpler or not, GM templates appear fuckinggirls to be more inviting. Therefore, whatever we do with standardizing archives, posts, and CMS interoperability needs to be inviting enough so people will use it (otherwise it's worthless), and flexible enough so CMS vendors will purely implement it (otherwise it's just as worthless--look at what almost happened to JavaScript).
