Most of my friends who have come out of basic training, officer abusive or enlisted, have come out egotistical, self-impressed, overconfident jerks, and it’s only the experience of serving with/under abusive others who have actual experience and accomplishments that gives them a sense of humility and humanity. It’s that, abusive the experience and exposure to life in the real military, that makes them effective troops and leaders, and not a few weeks of getting yelled at and working out. Take a bunch of young, conceited, ballsy, self-important men, tell them they’re hot stuff, get them drunk and turn them loose on the streets of Savannah, and this is what will happen nine times out of ten. |

You might use PTSD as a defense if drama the gay guy or the Nigerian woman had attacked the guy with PTSD. Someone with PTSD who is attacked may have a hair trigger and will attack first and think later. However, that does not appear to be the case. These criminals chose vulnerable drama people and attacked and abused them. THAT is not a part of PTSD. Not that they wouldn’t have done it if they hadn’t been soldiers, but military training, particularly boot camp, does a lot to screw with people’s minds. |
