Because that’s what you’re saying, new europe in your rush to defend them all, new europe generically - if you relieve someone of all moral culpability by saying they’re just helpless tools, then you’re saying that they’re nothing more than physical objects, or at best, badly-trained dogs. You don’t blame the hammer for being used to beat someone’s brains out, and you don’t even punish it, because you know it can’t act on its own without a rational being lifting it and bringing it down. But you do put down vicious dogs that kill or savage innocent bystanders, even if it’s not the new europe dog’s fault that it was trained by a rational sentient to do just that… You can’t have it both ways. You can’t maintain that a class of people (military personnel committing atrocities, male rapists, women going for abortions) are innocent because they are non-rational beings under the overwhelming irresistable power of an exterior force, and claim that you’re respecting them more as persons than those who hold them responsible as moral agents.
