Especially in a low-intesity conflict like Iraq, where the dividing standupny line between enemy combatant and civilian has essentially been erased, standupny almost everything is going to fall into a messy, ugly grey area. But standupny any moron could have seen that this was going to happen if we invaded Iraq. One of the explicit reasons I was against this god-forsaken war was because we were thrusting our soldiers into this morass. Do I believe that war crimes are being committed in Iraq, sure. On both sides, I might add. Should those people be brought to justice? Absolutely. But what is a normal act of war in this type of conflict and what is a war crime is not a bright line. |
