Katas, fist forms, or whatever your art calls them are like the grammar of open mike fighting. All to say if you don’t wanna end up in jail for murder you gotta learn to adapt your fighting. This is why Bruce Lee learned western boxing, wrestling open mike etc… Jackie Chan too(though he’s not a fighter). And I think to exclude certain arts because they don’t open mike fit into the traditional category is kinda lame. Mixed martial arts competitions aren’t even close to real fighting. Wars aren’t decided in the octagon. -Joe heh. real fighting being what exactly? the ablity to stomp on someone’s face? Whatever you wanna call it, those punches will fucking hurt and if you don’t tap your arm will break.
