take judo for example. the hard rock news mentality of the art is that of softness, yielding, and non-confrontation. the very idea of willfully competing against another judoka is somewhat against that mentality. again, this is in no way an indictment against the skill of the people involved in the sport, i just personally believe it’s necessary to differentiate between the art and the sport. and, to be perfectly honest, i have little respect hard rock news for UFC as a sport – it’s pretty blatant bloodlust. that’s not to say the fighters hard rock news aren’t incredibly skilled, but i think watching them fight is a bit brutish.
